Hardware engineering in PCB design, EMC and radio systems.

We develop our own hardware and take on work for other companies in the same areas: schematic and layout, EMC, RF integration, bring-up and fault-finding.

Embient develops hardware in PCB design, EMC and radio systems. About half the time goes to our own projects, the other half to design, review and fault-finding for other companies.

The practice is based in Sweden. Work is limited to a few areas: signal integrity, EMC, RF and board layout. Scope, deliverables and schedule are agreed before work starts, and you deal directly with the engineer doing it.

  • Printed circuit board design

Schematic design and PCB layout for new boards and revisions. Stack-up, return paths, decoupling, controlled impedance and thermal design are settled before routing starts, and the design is prepared for manufacture.

  • Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)

Emissions and immunity problems located and fixed on real hardware: pre-compliance measurement ahead of accredited testing, investigation of failed tests, and design review that prevents the problem.

  • Radio systems and RF engineering

The RF section of compact and embedded products: layout, front end, matching networks and antenna placement, with range and sensitivity assessed against a link budget.

  • Board bring-up and fault-finding

Bring-up of new prototypes and fault-finding on boards already built. Intermittent faults, marginal designs and long-standing problems traced to root cause.

  • Supporting

    Firmware and embedded software

The low-level software a board needs before it can be verified: firmware, embedded software and embedded Linux. Most useful during bring-up and debugging, where hardware and software faults overlap.

We take on a limited number of projects alongside our own.

If you have a board to design, an EMC test that did not pass, or a fault you cannot find, get in touch. A short description of the project and the question is enough to start.
